Cairns Museum tells the Cairns story with passion and playfulness – fitting for this frontier town located in Australia’s tropical Far North. Recapping the region’s stories in a contemporary manner, the museum makes history fun. The Museum has five galleries with accounts of the Bama Traditional Owners, the sugar cane industry, tourism development, the good, the bad and the ugly of living in the tropics, the reef and rainforest and of course weather – specifically cyclones. Its remarkable permanent collection is matched by temporary exhibitions and collaborations to extend the museum’s coverage of the city’s past and present.
